Illustrated. 20 pages. Subtitled: A Paper Read Before the New Haven Colony Historical Society April 21, 1947. Scarce and important piece of early American golf history. Pryde was a dominant figure in the development of golf in Connecticut and in America. A club designer and manufacturer, course designer, golf instructor, inventor, author, Golf Coach at Yale, etc. His paper covers the early New Haven period in a firsthand account. Following the paper is a copy of the title page to the 1900 New Haven Golf Club Year Book, a map of the original nine hole course laid out in a rectangular plot crossed by two city streets, a card of the links, holes named and showing Robert D. Pryde as Greenkeeper, a sketch of the clubhouse, and a map of the eighteen hole course of 5352 yards, laid out on the enlarged rectangular plot, crossed now by FOUR city streets! One hole of 471 yards played across two streets. (Fore!) Covers clean and undamaged. No internal marks of any kind, no creases, tears, or turned page corners. Very scarce and in beautiful condition.
