Illustrated with a frontispiece and over two hundred and fifty in-text figures. A study of the design and production of improper books in the age of the hand press, exploring lithographic incunables, military manuals, books on accounting and other 'difficult composition' works, non-Latin scripts, music method books, books with pictures, and much more. With a detailed catalogue to the rear. Written by Michael Twyman, an English Professor Emeritus of the Department of Typography & Graphic Communication at the University of Reading. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent with light fading to the spine. Original unclipped glassine wrap is sound with light wear and closed tears to the panel edges. Creasing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine.
