Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket. First Edition, First Impression of the 1901 issue. A very handsome and attractive binding, typical of its time, but it does have a confusing slew of titles. On the wonderful gilded cover it says 'Holmes's Poems'. On the half title it says 'Poems of Oliver Wendell Holmes'. On the full title it says 'The Early Poems of Oliver Wendell Holmes'. Poet and pioneer doctor of the microscope, Holmes led the busy life of the dedicated caring man of his time. Reputedly a fine doctor, he was not a bad poet either. A lovely copy, although Near Fine must take into consideration 112 years of existence. There are some marks on the back cover board, but nothing to disappoint. The edges are richly gilded and still bright, the corners are unbumped, and the front endpaper declares this copy, in a pale handwritten script, to have been awarded to Alice Ryan, for composition. Alice either did not read it or else she looked after it well. This is certainly a very good copy for the collector. 0.0 0.0 0.0. Seller Inventory # 000290
