1" split to cloth at head of front joint. 1/2" tear to cloth at head of spine. Some tidemarks to corners of plates. ; xiv, [2], 457, [1] pages + [2] pages advertisements + frontispiece + 5 plates. Vignette illustration on title page. Rebound (early 20th century?) in black cloth boards, with cloth reinforcement at hinges. Page dimensions: 203 x 130mm. Hunting / shooting in India. This work reads as a novel, but the author notes in his preface that it is largely based on "actual occurences". "The following narrative of sport and adventure is mainly a compilation of actual occurrences. Many - indeed, most - of the sporting incidents recorded in the body of the work are derived from my own journals and note-books; and, in general, are stated much as they took place under my own observation." - page v. The illustrations are all wood-cuts, and are titled: The Camp; The First Tiger - A Swimming Shot - A Ticklish Position - A Spread Eagle Shot - A Charging Shot - A Quiet Morning Shot. [Bibliographical reference: Czech (Asian) p. 148 - "He and his shooting party bagged tiger, cheetal, sambur, leopard, and bear, primarily in the Munguam Jungle and Rajpootna.".
