A fictitious case study and two authentic first-person accounts are included. An extensive bibliography is appended. The book is illustrated with Victorian reproductions of women in dramatic poses, which add little more than deco ration and lack relevance to the text. Erlanger's approach is compassionate, not sensational. Greater depth is of fered in Elaine Landau's Why Are They Starving Themselves? (Messner, 1983) or Suzanne Abraham's Eating Disor ders: the Facts (Oxford, 1984), which also covers obesity. Jane Claypool's Food Trips and Traps (Watts, 1983) dis cusses anorexia, bulimia, and compul sive eating. Extensive specific cover age is provided in Bulimia (Doubleday, 1983) by Janice M.
