From School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up-- A valuable collection of well-chosen, readable articles that bring most of today's major educational issues into focus. Material is selected from current magazines, newspapers, books, position papers, and government documents. An extended school year, standardized testing, national teacher certification, merit pay, parental choices, school vouchers, multiculturalism, and bilingual education are among the topics addressed. Large sections are devoted to the role of religion in schools and the state of higher education. Each chapter is followed by a critical-thinking activity and a current periodical bibliography. A list of groups to contact for further information adds to the usefulness of this excellent reference source. --Sue A. Norkeliunas, Arlington Senior High School, LaGrangeville, NY
