About the Author: MARTIN E. MARTY is professor emeritus at the University of Chicago, where he taught for thirty-five years. Contributing editor of the Christian Century, he is the author of more than fifty books, including the three-volume Modern American Religion, and the five volumes of The Fundamentalism Project. He is an ordained minister and frequent media commentator on American religion.
