8vo. pp. [4], xi, [xii, errata], 331, [1]. Nine folding engraved plates of mathematical diagrams. Contemporary mottled calf, lettering-piece to spine, raised bands. Red speckled edges. Clean and crisp internally. An excellent copy. As a teacher of mathematics, the profession ascribed to him on the title-page of the present work, Richard Jack (d.1759) gave lectures on natural and experimental philosophy, first in Edinburgh and later in London. He also worked as a military engineer. The book was well regarded and its subject-matter features in a substantial article on conic sections, credited to Jack, in the first edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica in 1771.
