Uncommon nonfiction work from Canadian author and professor, James De Mille (1833-1880). De Mille was professor of classics at Acadia University and later of English and rhetoric at Dalhousie, both in Nova Scotia. He was known for his popular fiction, most notably A Strange Manuscript Found in a Copper Cylinder,1888. . 8vo, 564pp. Publisher's green pebbled cloth, ruled in blind, spine lettered in gilt. Rubbing to boards, spine ends chipped. Ffep removed, ownership stamps to title and endpapers, ownership signature to front pastedown and few annotations to rear fly. A very good copy.
