The first printing of the first American edition, issued a year after the English edition. 8vo. viii, 340pp. Blue cloth lettered, ruled and decorated in gold at the spine, with the publisher's motif gilt-stamped to the upper board. Some toning to the front free endpaper, where it would appear a clipping was once stored. Contemporary ownership signature of Robert Vanderbilt to the front free endpaper. Very good indeed in the quite uncommon dust wrapper, non-price-clipped but toned, rubbed and chafed, with an inch of loss from the head of the spine panel, a touch of further loss from the corner tips, and one carefully repaired tear.
