England South

Hardback. Slight foxing to end inside covers and edge. Wear and tear to D/J. The spirit of England and the character of her people are indelibly written on the face of the countryside. The author, with a fine feeling for these qualities, has, for a lifetime, tramped, cycled and motored over the hills and dales with his sketch-book, recording the scene and inquiring into its origins and history. Those who regret the passing of old ways - the England of country lanes and villages, of stately homes, of the squire and craftsman - will find in this book the lover's enthusiasm and appreciation for old England and her charm. Sydney Jones' admirers will know the mellowness of his tyle, the keenness of his researches, the charm of his pencil, from earlier books which have recalled familiar scenes. They will welcome England - South as the first of three volumes - a trilogy which will emabrace the whole of England.
