Description: Small octave 3 1/2" x 6". Contemporary 1st edition, with polished brown sheep rebound in original boards. Re-spined with old spine relaid on replacement period leather. Two new free flies using period paper (front and back.) Previous 18th century owners names to back of title page, a later date capital "W. FORD" to front inside end board. Some small loss of page edges to title page and first page and back two pages but no text lost. The text, though age-darkened, is firm and tight and all pages readable. Most interestingly, a contemporary paper cover also present with handwritten contemporary title. This pocket-sized book served to influence and prepare the minds of the American Colonists for revolution and their new constitution. ' English Liberties' was a cheap polemic book, much reprinted in the American colonies as well as in Britain, until the late 18th century. A nice first edition copy of a famous title, with rare contemporary binding and 'dust jacket' or protective covering.…
