Low productivity of milk in India and other developing countries could be attributed to the low nutrient density and poor digestibility of the agricultural by-products of conventional and un-conventional origin. Addition of exogenous enzymes to make the feed materials more easily digestible was one such approach. Solid State Fermentation system (SSF) has emerged as a potential means to upgrade the nutritive value of such animal feed.
