Add to basketESCAPE FROM JAVA BY CORNELIS VAN DER GRIFT 1943 1ST EDITION HC DJ MYLAR SLEEVE. I am pleased to be able to offer a very nice and well preserved copy of a vintage book titled: Escape from Java by Cornelis van der Grift and E.H. Lansing. This small hard cover book (5 ¾ x 8 ¼ inches, 166 pages) was published by Thomas Y. Crowell Company of New York dated 1943 and the First Edition (with same date on title and copyright pages). The book is bound in matte black boards with green titles on the spine and protected by a printed paper dust jacket itself with a mylar sheath. It is the story of a Dutchman who escaped from Java after the Japanese invaded and their month-long sailing voyage west to the Island of Rodriquez across the Indian Ocean. There is a small group of b&w photos mid-point in the book. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket has some light edge wear and some loss of finish on the spine where a label appears to have been removed. However, owing to the mylar sheath it is now all under control. The hard covers are clean and bright with some very light bumping to the corners and spine tips. Inside the book is unmarked and the pages are clean and bright. The book was apparently hand opened which was not done carefully and there are some ragged edges to a few of the pages. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
