First separate edition, a revised and enlarged version of an essay that first appeared in Vol. X of the Wisconsin Historical Society Collections. 4to. 117 pp. Portrait frontispiece of the author. Inscribed by the author in 1891 to longtime University of Virginia Professor George H. Holmes. Draper is best known for "King's Mountain and Its Heroes" (Cincinnati, 1881), "this author's most notable work and one of our great historical monographs" (Howes), and his life-long search for manuscripts related to the development of the United States, the foundation of the collections at the Wisconsin Historical Society. Very good. Original gilt-stamped olive cloth (rubbed, spine ends somewhat worn, corners bumped. (#5841).
