Text block clean and bright. Pages untrimmed with large margins. Eleven plates at rear illustrating surgical instruments and their application. Repair of harelip discussed on pages 97 106. Also includes a discussion on the removal of fishbones from the esophagus. Dedication to John Barclay, M.D. Collates to Waller 5128: xi, 180 pp., 11 pl (as well as one blank at front and rear). Surgeons and instrument makers in Britain (Jardine and Savigny), France (Thomson and Charri�re), and America (Galt and Otto & Reynders) endeavored to make the trephine safer and more precise.
