Contemporary binding of dark green cloth with blind stamped decorative border on both boards and title in gilt on upper board. Tips worn through, top of spine frayed. sticker remnant bottom of spine, endpapers replaced; internally sound and clean. This essay was awarded, by the Bureau of Agriculture and Statistics of Upper and Lower Canada, the first prize for the "best essay on the origin, nature, and habits, and the cause of the progress, of the weevil, Hessian fly, midge, and such other insects as have made ravages on the wheat crops in Canada; and on the best means of evading or guarding against them." Author was Professor of Chemistry at Trinity College, Toronto. 139 pages with line drawings; printed by Lovell & Gibson, Toronto.
