The author was a military man 'Major-Commondant of the Brimstree Loyal Legion' who advertises his book on 'MIlitary Figures' before turning his attention to gate hanging. The Goldsmith copy on COPAC is described as having 5 plates, the Attingham Park copy, as ours, having four. The text, however, suggests four plates, and the online copy examined also has four.
