First edition of Vossius? large latin etymological dictionary, edited posthumously by his son, Isaac Vossius. New editions followed in 1664, 1695 and as late as 1762. G. J. Vossius (1577-1649), author, classical scholar, philologist and theologian. Born near Heidelberg of Dutch parents, he become director of the theological college at Leiden 1615, where from he resigned 1619 under suspicion of heresy caused by his ?Historia Pelagiana? published 1618.
