[v], 294pp. Xavier Marcel Boulestin (1878-1943) was a French chef, restaurateur, and the author of many cookery books that popularised French cuisine in the English-speaking world. He opened the Restaurant Boulestin in 1927, and its fame, together with his book, made him a celebrity. His cuisine was wide-ranging, embracing not only the French classics but also dishes familiar to British cooks. Among those influenced by Boulestin was Elizabeth David, who praised Boulestin in her books and adopted many of his precepts. The present book consists of a collection of economical menus for every day of the year, suitable for all households, together with recipes. The book is bound in the original patterned cloth covered boards with yellow titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. The spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth at the top of the spine and damage with loss of about 1/8" at the bottom of the spine. There is a split of about 3/8" in the cloth on the bottom of the front spine edge. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few small marks and some foxing on the first and last few pages. There is also foxing on the fore edge of the text block and on some pages this has seeped a little way into the fore margin. There is no inscription. Seller Inventory # gFood04
