Add to basketRARE TO FIND WITH UNCLIPPED DUST JACKET. An account of the British 1933 Everest expedition, led by Ruttledge. The team included several experienced climbers such as Frank Smythe, Eric Shipton, and Wyn Harris. This was the first attempt after the disastrous 1924 expedition in which George Mallory and Andrew Irvine disappeared near the summit. Some possibilities as to what happened to the pair are ruminated upon within this account. Particularly, the finding of an ice axe offered some explanation as to their fate. First Edition. London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1934. Royal 8vo. Original blue publisher's cloth in original unclipped dust jacket. Pages: xv, 389. 2 folding maps. Numerous illustrations and photographs throughout. Original unclipped dust jacket. Bound in original blue publisher's cloth. Spine lettered and ruled in gilt. Cover margins in blind. Includes several contemporary newspaper clippings loosely inserted at front covering the expedition. Very good in good dust jacket. Dust jacket unclipped, spine browned with some cracking and chipping. Previous repair made to inside lower spine. Cover boards have some bumping to corners and very mild darkening to spine. Contents in excellent condition. Some foxing present on prelims and along edges. Pages generally clean, fresh, and bright. Folding maps in fine condition, free from markings and tearing. Provenance: From the library of Warwick H. Williams. Please note: This item is large and/or heavy. It may require additional postage costs to be paid. If so, we will contact you after purchase.
