An extension of the collaborative work conducted between the American Museum of Natural History & Columbia University (both places where had conducted research), this is a massive 2-volume set, with Vol. I (736 pp) containing the Text & Vol. II (1013 pp) the Illustrations, including pen-and-ink drawings, engravings, & 3 fold-out charts--all pristine & appearing never opened. From the estate of a local biology professor, this is a FIRST EDITION, first printing from 1951 (with review notice laid in), this set is bound in publisher's deep blue cloth & lettered in gilt to front & spine (which is faded). Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean, bindings straight & strong, pages lightly tanned. Former owner's name stamp to ffep in both, along with a homemade card pocket inside back cover (but not ex-lib). NO writing or underlining or highlighting. Only flaw is modest rubbing & a short scratch to spine on Vol. II. NO DJs, as issued. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive from us, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! All orders processed before 2 pm weekdays (PST) ship same day; weekends & holidays ship very next business SORRY; set is too large & heavy for any expedited domestic or international shipping due to postage costs.
