First Edition (first printing). 8vo. ix, 227pp. Green cloth with a paper spine label. Fore- and bottom edges untrimmed. A touch of spotting to the top edge and a touch of browning to several blank preliminaries. Very good indeed in very good dust wrapper, with several tiny fractions of loss from the spine panel ends and a single tiny enclosed snag. With the contemporary ownership signature of Rowland Thirlmere, the non-de-plume of Lancastrian poet and author John Walker, to the front free endpaper, and the visiting card of his wife laid-in. An early and most uncommon collection of essays by Middleton Murry, penned for separate publication between 1916-19, and collected here to illustrate the evolution of his thoughts and criticisms as the Great War progressed. Includes a ten-page essay on Siegfried Sassoon's Great War verse.
