Davis, 1928 presidential nominee Alfred Smith, and former party chairman John J. Raskob joined corporate leaders such as Alfred P. The League’s posturing in advance of the 1936 presidential election provided FDR’s campaign plenty of fodder for its attempts to portray their man as the ally of ordinary Americans.
