Baptist missionary activities in Indonesia began in earnest during the early 1950s, following the country's independence from Dutch colonial rule in 1945. Influenced by the closure of Baptist missions in China due to the communist takeover in 1948, Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) leaders redirected efforts to Indonesia, conducting surveys as early as January 1950.
