About this Item
Adventure/romance story of fugitives from a Russian penal colony in Siberia and their escape through the polar regions. Translated from French by George D. Cox, originally titled 'Vie en Sibérie: Aventures des Trois Fugitifs'. In his effusive introduction, Cox alleges the book to be a "complete treasury of Siberian information" and comparable to 'Robinson Crusoe'; he is sure it will be of interest because the Nihilists involved in the recent assassination of Czar Alexander II will be headed there. Hardcover, full ochre cloth with gilt lettering and black decoration; brown end sheets. Spine darkened with some small tears & chipping to the ends; corners lightly bumped; darkened top edge; previous owner's penciled name & note on first leaf after front end sheet adjacent to a stain; pages tanned but not brittle or foxed. Binding sound. Text clean; [2], 11-358 pages + 34 pages publisher's ads. Scarce. Seller Inventory # 997827
