Woodcuts; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 23 pages; 1886 E. & G. Goldsmid, Edinburgh. 1st edition. Snugly bound in original trade burgundy cloth with wide single rule to board edges and titles in gilt to upper board. Thin spine unlettered, as issued. Just mild shelf rub to board edges and a short closed rupture to cloth at the front edge of the upper board. Title page is cracking in the gutter; small ink ownership stamp in the gutter of the following leaf - "Intrroduction.' Illustrated with 13 plates depicting in woodcut 4 playing cards; commmntary and description printed on adjoining leaves. Plates printed singles side only. Uncommon in the original edition. VG-.
