Synopsis
This book provides a basic foundation that readers can use to draw practical and personal conclusions regarding the interface of counseling and spirituality. Readers will have a unique opportunity for both didactic and experiential investigation of spiritual and religious beliefs in relation to the counseling process. The authors provide important information on issues and concepts regarding spirituality, as well as examples of specific interventions related to the topics. The authors have made a conscious attempt to provide readers with information not addressed in other counseling and spirituality texts. The text is divided into three domains, the philosophical, the practical, and the personal. It is the authors' premise that a holistic model of counseling and spirituality that integrates the scholarly and philosophical with the practical and personal must be used. This book provides a rich introduction to the topics, drawing on various disciplines, and presents the information in a user-friendly manner.
About the Authors
Christopher M. Faiver is a summa cum laude graduate of Hiram College, where he majored in Religion and Spanish, attaining honors in both undergraduate majors. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. His Master's in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education (Counseling specialty) was conferred by Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Faiver also received his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology (Counseling specialty) from Case Western Reserve University. Licensed in Counseling and Psychology in Ohio, he is certified nationally as a counselor by NBCC and as a clinical consultant in hypnosis by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. He is listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. He has made numerous presentations and is the author of many journal articles and two books. Recently, he and co-authors have completed a book on spirituality and counseling for Brooks/Cole-Wadsworth Publishing. Dr. Faiver is a Professor and Coordinator of the Community Counseling Master's program at John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH.
Elliott Ingersoll is a Professor and coordinator of counseling programs in the department of Counseling, Administration, Supervision, and Adult Learning in the College of Education and Human Services at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a licensed psychologist and clinical counselor in the state of Ohio, where his areas of specialization are mood disorders, anxiety disorders, religious and spiritual problems, and substance abuse. Dr. Ingersoll is author or co-author of seven books and over two dozen journal articles and book chapters. His areas of publication are psychopharmacology, spirituality, and psychopathology. He lives in Kent, Ohio.
