The Franco-German Armistice of 1940 dealt such a crushing blow to the morale of the French people that it is not surprising that some of them never really recovered the will to fight. What is truly remarkable is the speed with which a few, admittedly only a very few to start off with, steeled themselves to continue a struggle which at the time must have seemed utterly pointless, so overwhelmingly were the odds against them. This book is the story of some of those men - the men who belonged to "F" section of the Special Operations Executive of SOE, the men whose self-appointed job was it to carry out Chiurchill's famous command "to set Europe alight.".
