FIRST EDITION in 2 parts, 1771. With parallel English and French text. The plates and the advertisement on verso of last page are dated 1771, no date on title pages. 8vo approximately 190 x 125 mm, 8 x 5 inches, 9 plates, 8 folding, including frontispiece, pages: [4], v-xlix, [2], 3-157, 160-196, [1], jump in pagination is in all copies, bound in quarter speckled calf, gilt lettered label and gilt rules between raised bands to spine, marbled boards, original endpapers retained. Pale age-browning to title pages and frontispiece, 1 plate has a longish closed tear running into image with old repair on blank side, no loss (see image), tiny nick to top edge of 5 leaves in Introduction, last 3 leaves have pale age-browning to outer edges, light offsetting from plates to facing pages, occasional pale foxing to margins of text and plates. According to ESTC it lacks the plate list and 1 advert leaf, (though 4 copies seen were the same as ours), otherwise a very good copy. See: Carl A.
