A well illustrated history of the publishing house that churned out dime novels, pulp magazines, comics, and sporting yearbooks. There's a bookseller's label to front endpaper, and the edges are just a tad browned, but a near fine copy in a good plus, creased dust jacket, worn and nicked on edges, slightly browned, and with the laminate lifting off in places. Near fine in a very good dust wrapper First edition.Beginning in 1855 with "New York Weekly", Street & Smith published a huge number of weeklies, magazines, comics, annuals and hardcover and paperback series, including detective and crime stories, westerns and romances. They gave Theodore Dreiser his first job as a writer, paying him $15 a week, and later made him editor of Smith's Magazine at $60 a week.
