About this Item
First impression of the true first edition. Illustrated with twenty-five black and white photographs on sixteen pages. Publisher's Review Copy with original review slip with publication date: October 26th 1967. ***Very good in duo-tone buff cloth-covered boards over a red cloth-covered spine with gilt titles to the spine. There is some off-setting on the lower spine from the dustwrapper (caused by sunlight exposure). The boards are largely clean and unmarked. Head of spine and lower corner tips slightly creased. No other bumps or creases. Top edge of page block stained red by the publisher. Page block edges clean. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally also very good, with no inscriptions, but please note that a previous owner has underlined a line in black ink (p31) and marked in the margin (p28,29,31,187). Pages otherwise clean. No foxing. No creases or tears. With publisher's review slip loosely inserted (with some writing in ink on the reverse). ***In a very good illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of 36s. net. The dustwrapper is complete, but there is some heavy rubbing and creasing at the top and tail of the spine. Some rubbing and light creasing to the extremities. Dustwrapper also slightly discoloured (being a white background). ***352 pages including Select Bibliography and Index at the back of the book. 222mm x 152mm. ***Contents: Part One: The Missionaries, Part Two: New Worlds, Part Three: Mothers Superior, Part Four: Mrs Pankhurst's Last Stand, Part Five: Sisters Three, Part Six: Second World Wars, Part Seven: The Passing of the Pankhursts, Select Bibliography, Index. ***'The entry of Lady Astor into Parliament in 1919 marked the victory of a marathon slave revolt - the Votes For Women Campaign. The success of this movement was largely due to the leadership of the formidable Pankhurst women: Emmeline and her daughters Christabel, Adela, and Sylvia. Just how this family used the emancipation they had fought for so furiously is shown in David Mitchell's fascinating study.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***First impression of the true first edition, complete in its original dustwrapper. Of interest to academics and social historians researching the Suffragette movement and in particular the Pankhursts. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 3080x
