A first edition - first printing of Volume I of "The Letters of Virginia Woolf", published by The Hogarth Press in 1975. Illustrated throughout with monochrome photographic plates.

***Very good in sea-green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still beautifully bright. The boards are clean and only slightly marked. Head and tail of spine just slightly creased, with a slight crease to the top corner tip of the front board. No other bumps or creases. Other corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. No reading creases to the spine. Spine tight. Page block edges foxed, mainly to the top edge (please see scans). Internally near fine with no previous ownership inscriptions or annotations. Pages clean with no foxing. No creases or tears. The paper used for this production is thin but of a nice quality.

***In a very good illustrated dustwrapper, which retains the original publisher's printed price of £7.75 net. The dustwrapper is complete, with no chips or tears. Some light creasing to the extremities, mainly to the top and tail of the spine. Some light browning and partial fading to the spine colour. Foxing to the inner flaps. ***242mm x 160mm. 531 pages including an Appendix of Nicknames used in Volume I and an extremely detailed 21pp Index at the back of the book.

VIRGINIA WOOLF (1882–1941) was one of the major literary figures of the twentieth century. An admired literary critic, she authored many essays, letters, journals, and short stories in addition to her groundbreaking novels.
