A scarce First Edition title, especially in the near-Fine condition. Three (Biggles author) W. E. Johns' stories and a variety of named illustrators including apparently W. E. Johns himself and Stanley Orton Bradshaw. Thick quarto hardback in colour printed paper-covered illustrated boards, plain end-papers with no inscription, 248 pages (almost nine inches tall), clean, soft white paper with easy-read larger size text (suitable for younger - or older readers). Probably published in either 1936 (publisher's code). Four stories by W. E. Johns, three by Geo. E. Rochester, one by both Arch Whitehouse and "Vigilant". Dramatic and attractive pen and ink illustrations within the text. Ten full-page illustrations, as called for, six in full colour and four in greyscale. The binding is tight and strong, the board covers have minuscule wear to points and a lightly marked white rear cover. The white parts of the spine remain clean and bright, unusually. Illustrations printed on superior coated paper. Front blank end-paper neatly removed. Remarkable condition for this type and age book. Companion volume to "Ace High" also available from this seller.
