First Impression. Octavo (19.5cm); yellow cloth, with titles stamped in red on spine; [6],7-331,[1]pp. Hint of sunning to cloth at spine, very faint foxing to text edges and endpapers, with a tiny loss to lower corner of p.7/8; a pleasing copy, Very Good+ or better, lacking the scarce dustjacket. An early novel by Stout a western, set among the wild forest reservists of Montana, where Stan Durham, senior fire ranger, protects his territory from forest fires with Henry Fallon, his blond, blue-eyed 19-year-old summer recruit. Evidently never reprinted after the US (Farrar, 1933) and UK editions were released, the novel is cited by Anthony Slide's 2011 book Lost Gay Novels: Reference Guide to Fifty Works from the First Half of the Twentieth Century. 7463.
