12mo, pp. [1-3] 4 [5] 6-7 [8-9] 10-356 + 4 pages of ads, flyleaves at front and rear, eleven inserted plates, including presentation plate and frontispiece, original decorated full brown leather, all panels elaborately tooled in gold and blind, a.e.g., yellow coated endpapers. First edition. This long-running annual was the first English gift book series, the first issue appeared in 1823, the last in 1847. Prose and poetry by William L. Stone ("Life in the Woods," a sketch set in northeastern New York state), Mary Howitt, James Montgomery, Douglas Jerrold, James Hoag (writing as "The Ettrick Shepherd"), and others. Faxon 1312. Leather just a bit rubbed, a very good or better copy with clean, attractive binding. (#136004).
