Add to basketRandom House, 1954. Hardcover. Condition: Good, minor ink stains on spine together with some sunning, and some scuffing on boards otherwise Very Good. Text block clean and bright free from markings save prior owners name in neat ink script on FFL. No Dust Jacket. Book club edition, bearing distinctive blind stamp punch at lower right of rear board. Winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, the first book to win both awards. Wikipedia says: Amid the creative slowdown of WWII Faulkner began work on a new novel that merged World War I's Unknown Soldier with the Passion of Christ. Published over a decade later as A Fable, it won the 1954 Pulitzer Prize. The award for A Fable was a controversial political choice. The jury had selected Milton Lott s The Last Hunt for the prize, but Pulitzer Prize Administrator Professor John Hohenberg convinced the Pulitzer board that Faulkner was long overdue for the award, despite A Fable being a lesser work of his, and the board overrode the jury's selection, much to the disgust of its members.
