About this Item
A smart and uncommon English copy of the Fables of Babrius. This is an uncommon English translation of the Fables of Babrius, translated in English verse from the text of Sir G. C. Lewis by Rev. James Davies, who was a scholar at the University of Oxford.Babrius was the author of a collection of Greek fables, many of which are known today as Aesop's Fables. There is little known about him today and this volume is a lovely addition to the history of Greek fables. There is an introduction to the fables and discussion of who Babrius was within the preface.Bound by Bone & Son.With a bookplate for Percival F. Hinton, who was a local historian and scholar of Birmingham with a keen interest in poetry, to the front pastedown. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some light marks to the spine and boards. A bookplate for Percival F. Hinton to the front pastedown. Binders sticker to rear pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Very Good. Seller Inventory # 833B57
