'Addressed to the landowners of Great Britain' this is a very scarce first edition publication of Nottingham Anti-Corn-Law Association member Richard Sulley's treaties on the 'Fallacies of the Protective System'.High tariffs on imported grains, justified as protecting British farmers, and termed the Corn Laws, were introduced in 1815, and caused rises in the price of bread that resulted in widespread rioting, instigating the formation of the Anti-Corn-Law League in 1836.In this work, Sulley explains his 'chief aim has been to endeavour to remove the prejudices of a certain class to the abolition of the restrictions on commerce, especially those relating to the importation of foreign agricultural produce'.With two stamps of the Nottingham Public Libraries to the title page, and no further library markings.A smart copy of a very scarce work.
