Stiff unmarked book in glossy dust jacket; beautifully produced with illustrated endpapers and quality paper. About new.; 397 pages; This is an official, comprehensive institutional history of Ipswich School, one of England's oldest independent day and boarding schools (founded in 1399 as a grammar school attached to the church of St. Mary-le-Tower in Ipswich, Suffolk). The title draws from a 1611 description by the school's founder/master, referring to it as a "famous antient seed-plot of learning" (a nurturing ground for education). The book traces the school's evolution over 600+ years, emphasizing its role in East Anglian education, notable alumni (e. G. , Cardinal Wolsey was an early pupil/master figure in its prehistory; later figures include politicians, scientists, artists) , and survival through Tudor reforms, Civil War, Victorian expansions, and modern times.
