Fay Godwin (1931 - 2005) was a British naturalist photographer who is known for her English landscape photography, but her output was broad, encompassing portraits, landscapes, urban scenes, and more. In her own words: ".I?m a documentary photographer, my work is about reality, but that shouldn?t mean it can?t be creative." (Source: Land (1985), foreword by John Fowles.)
Her passion for photography was awakened later in life, when she started taking pictures of and while walking with her young children. A quick learner, she built herself a darkroom and began experimenting, with astonishing results. A lifelong environmentalist, much of her work was focused on capturing landscapes disappearing to be turned into office blocks and apartments.
She is also known for her portraits of the creme-de-la-creme of the British literary scene (including Saul Bellow, Kingsley and Martin Amis, Seamus Heaney, Saul Bellow, Angela Carter, Margaret Drabble, and Antony Powell, among others). Her entire collection was donated to the British Library on her death, and can be browsed online.
About This Edition:
Paperback, first edition, some rubbing to the corners, as expected with age and use, otherwise a very good copy.
