Stand-alone novel that followed the author's acclaimed "Interview with the Vampire" this one also set in New Orleans, but focused on the "gens de couleur libre: (free people of color) who flourished in the city before the Civil War. In 572 pages, this FIRST EDITION, First printing hardcover from 1979 has cream-colored paper over quarter red cloth-covered boards, with gilt devices to front/lettering to spine. Condition is VG+: internally completely clean, pages barely tanned & completely unmarked, binding strong & straight. Outside edges of text block show heavy foxing, toning & mile rubbing to extremities. The unclipped DJ is VG, with a faint dampstain to bottom edge (does not impact book) & very mild edgewear, tiny chips at both ends of spine; beautifully protected in new clear mylar cover free!
