We see him singing in the pubs to sell his parish magazine; educated by the Clergy Orphan Corporation after the early death of both parents; as both chaplain and entertainments officer on a migrant ship to Australia; enjoying new-found respectability as senior chaplain at Eton and being sent on his first TV training course only to be told that it would be wrong for his ever to appear on the box because 'the viewers would never be able to get to sleep!'. And yet, despite all the fun and games, it is Roger's simple, down-to-earth spirituality that is his real hallmark, the reason that time and again people come to him for advice and help.
