A true field guide for insects, over 1000 illustrations, 778 in colour. No other group of living creatures has such variety of form, colour, function and habitat as insects. There is no simple definition that takes in all the variations, all that can be done is to list those features of insects that distinguish them from other animals. This book has been designed to help the the non-specialist place an insect in its correct group and to provide the basic knowledge necessary for tackling the more detailed works.
