First edition, first printing. 120, [4] pp. Bound in publisher's cream-colored cloth, lettered in red, red topstain. Very Good, slight lean to spine, former owner's name written in inner margin of title page, in a price-clipped Near Fine dust jacket, lightly shelf worn. Nice shape overall. The African American author's thoughts on race in his homeland in two long essays, "My Dungeon Shook: Letter to my Nephew on the One Hundredth Anniversary of the Emancipation" and "Down at the Cross: Letter from a Region of My Mind." With widespread recognition of Baldwin's prescience in the past few years it has become a classic of 20th century nonfiction.
