See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original blindstamped green cloth boards with gilt text on spine. Exterior cloth shows edge and corner wear/bumps/chips and outside edges of both boards show loss to the cloth finish and spotting. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. Only issue found is at the front board where the paper is just starting to crack and is only noticeable because of the brown paper. Second end page has the original owner signature (Clara S. Sherman) Lightly written in pencil and last free end page has a few creases in very small tears along the fore edge. Also found between the pages was a piece of paper from young Miss Sherman which has her name on one side pencil drawing of a fish on the other. As this has been with the book since 1886 it seems only proper that it stays with the book. Pages are toned due to age and some minor foxing and spotting is present. This is the first edition with the publication date of 1886 appearing on both the title and copyright pages. Title page also states this is part of the "American Science Series, Elementary Course - adapted for use in schools".
