[Pulp] [Prison Life] Retelling of the Barbara Graham case in pulp edition. Walker, Bill. The Case of Barbara Graham. New York: Ballantine Books, 1961. First edition first printing mass market paperback pulp. 188 pages. Measures 4.5" x 7". Plot follows the courtroom case of Barbara Graham, an explosive trial in 1950s Los Angeles where Graham was accused and convicted of a robbery that led to the murder of an elderly widow. She was the third woman in California to be executed by gas. Walker covered the trial for the Los Angeles Herald-Express at the time, and dives into the courtroom drama, her stay in women's prison, cops who trade information with underworld characters, and how prosecutors bargain with murderers. Back cover reads: "The case of Barbara Graham is the story of a trial so explosive that it rocked the State of California, so dangerous that the prosecution's key witness was protected in the courtroom by armed guards. Thinly fictionalized, the trial and execution of Barbara Graham was given sensational treatment in the movie 'I Want To Live.'" Also includes several images throughout of Graham, the trial, and other images mentioned in the text. Covers are very good, first page before title page is loose but present, overall, in very good condition. Seller Inventory # 19936
