Item description from seller

283 pages. First edition, first printing. The story of Juliette Michaux and early New Orleans. She was a convent-bred orphan, who grew up in the days when the fabulous governor, de Vaudreuill, brought to the crude French settlement the luxury and licentiousness of a "little Versailles". Her daughter, Adrienne, who during the great fire, fell deeply in love with a Spanish nobleman and when the War with England reached New Orleans, young Francisca fell in love with a Yanqui. Fine book in a fine dust jacket with very slight wear to the corners. A beautiful copy.
