Synopsis

A solitary puffin rides through the air, whales burst through midnight waters, and maelstroms beat against the northern shore, in Flight of the Imagination, by Shannon (Stefan) Robert Lowry. The opening poem, "Far to the North," dramatically sets the scene where "waterfalls turn to ice", "pines change into marbles of pure granite", and "moonlit lakes shine with the glow of the mystery of life". Elsewhere, a "Thunder Sky" "prevails as an eerie thought". And when "Night Falls" it does so "like dust from a shelf". "Ancient Autumn" creates a sense of communion between the aspects of nature. This is an insightful book in which poetic consciousness runs throughout, and many of life's themes are evoked by a puffin.

About the Author

Shannon (now Stefan) Robert Lowry, although born and raised in Florida, feels a close connection with the North. Through the Norwegian heritage of his family, he has studied Norway's language, its cultural traditions, and lifestyle. Some of his poems have been anthologized and also recorded. Stefan is a college student majoring in creative writing and art history.
