This is the first edition of the first volume of Trollope's Palliser series. It was published in two volumes. Sadleir [19] mentions that a one volume edition, that simply combined both volumes, was produced in 1866 but it carried a new title page. However, this volume includes both original title pages for both volumes, and so it appears to have been a "one off" rebind by an early owner. However, the half title pages for each volume are absent. 8vo. Illustrated. vi, [2], 320; vi, [2], 320 pp. + 40 plates Very good in half leather on marbled boards, with matching marbled endpapers and marbling on the page edges all around. The binding is quite sound. There is minor edge wear. The text shows slight age toning, and there is scattered foxing, primarily on the plates, which is common for books of this vintage. .
